Job Summary:

The Intake Worker is responsible for making the initial contact with the Social Services program clients and implements the Social Assistance program according to the established procedures and systems. The intake worker maintains a case load of clients and assists these clients in dealing with personal and social problems by providing referrals to other agencies. In addition, the Intake Worker is responsible for verification of continuing eligibility of clients.

Some Duties Include:

  • Interview clients and obtain case history and background information
  • Prepare intake information to determine eligibility for assistance i.e. Application for Social Assistance and Income Declarations
  • Assess and investigate eligibility for social benefits
  • Assess and investigate client information to determine continue eligibility for benefits
  • Advise and aid recipients of social assistance and pension eligibility
  • Maintain client records in computer database
  • Assess need for assistance such as financial aid or career counseling, and refer clients to the appropriate agencies. 
  • Perform related clerical duties such as maintain filing and record systems, completing reports and answering client enquiries

Qualifications:

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work or other social science discipline (preferred)
  • Combination of education/experience in a related field will be considered
  • Must have at least two (2) years related work experience.
  • Training in counseling and Aboriginal Information Systems (AIS) is desired
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record check, Vulnerable Sector check and Child Abuse Registry check
  • A valid Class V Manitoba Driver’s License is required.
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
