Volunteers Make Chief Candidates Forum Possible for Electors
From the Office of the Chief and Council
Public Notice: Volunteers Make Chief Candidate Forum Possible for Electors
The Opaskwayak administration would like to thank all the external organizations that helped organize the Chief candidate forum held at the University College of the North (UCN) cafeteria on the evening of Monday, September 11, 2023.
As you are aware the community has its own custom Election Code with procedures to follow during campaign period. Within the Election Code there are no requirements for the electoral officer or administration to host any candidate forum.
Having The Pas OCN Chamber of Commerce step up to host the event was the perfect opportunity to allow a third-party viewpoint that would give fair and equal opportunity to all candidates. This past year they also hosted both the Mayor of The Pas and Reeve of the RM of Kelsey candidate forums.
The University College of the North was also instrumental in making the forum possible as they provided the cafeteria, equipment and staff. Special thanks to the following who volunteered their time and effort for the forum:
- Jill Wilkinson, Debbie Howell and Ashley Moore of The Pas OCN Chamber of Commerce for set up and monitoring the live feed.
- Monte Koshel, Grant Nemeth and Jackie Rechenmacher of the University College of the North for moderating, audio & visual, and delivery of the live feed.
- External stakeholders that we’ve worked with over the years that provided questions to the moderator

Congratulations to all Chief candidates for attending and putting your best foot forward for the future of Opaskwayak Cree Nation.
Ekosi,
Rhonda Ross, Chief Executive Officer
Jennifer Lavallee-Bignell, Chief Administrative Officer
Olumide Soyele, Chief Financial Officer
