A Christmas Celebration for Off-reserve Members Living in Winnipeg and Surrounding Area
On Friday, December 9, 2022, a Christmas dinner was held at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Winnipeg for Opaskwayak band members living in the city and surrounding area.
Chief Sidney Ballantyne and Councillors John-Paul Martin, Derek Constant and Joel Pelly stood near the entrance greeting people as they entered the event. Once everyone was seated, each of the four members of Chief and Council spoke to the crowd, sharing some encouraging words and Christmas stories.
The event was held from 5-8 p.m. and had seating for 350 guests with some tables left empty as the night went on. The dinner was hosted by former APTN and CTV morning news host Michael Hutchinson. This was the first big event held off-reserve since before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Over a dozen door prizes were handed out throughout the night thanks to our generous sponsors.
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate the night with Opaskwayak Chief and Council. Please enjoy the pictures we captured during the event below.
