56th Annual OID Princess Crowning

On Thursday, August 18th, we crowned the princesses of the 56th Annual Opaskwayak Indigenous Days celebration!

Over 200 spectators gathered at OID park outside the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre where 17 young girls vied for four princess categories: Little Miss Sweetheart, Junior Princess, Senior Princess and Angel Princess.

This year’s 2022 Indigenous Days Princesses are:

  • Little Miss Sweetheart (ages 6 and under): Deshawna Whyte Personius
  • Junior Princess (ages 7-12: Gigi Blacksmith
  • Senior Princess (ages 13-18): Julie Bignell
  • Angel Princess (ages 18 and under): Cherish Halcrow

Our princesses will represent the Opaskwayak community at events over the next year.

This was a very competitive year: each contender was close in points. Congratulations to all of our participating royalty!
